ANDRUCO LAGOON
-
Purpose
Andruco Lagoon is 20 Ha in size and is situated on the Baaka (Darling) River on private property.
Our vision with the landholder is to maintain the river red gum communities and provide valuable habitat to fauna such as the endangered regent parrot, black swan and Australasian grebe breeding habitat.
-
Approach
Andruco Lagoon is owned and enjoyed by three generations who use this site to reconnect to nature. It has been part of MDWWG rehabilitation efforts since 2009 and was last watered in 2020-21. Since then, the lagoon has received continuous unregulated flows and now major flooding in 2022-23. In the absence of floods, Andruco would typically receive environmental water two in every five years. As the lagoon holds water for several months, water would be delivered from August and supplemented prior to summer drying.
Waterbirds are monitored and water may be maintained for several months for the swans whilst cygnets develop to fledgling stage.

Outcomes
Providing off-river habitat; Increasing the availability of habitat for fauna (including frogs, waterbirds, and terrestrial birds
Improving the health of river red gum and other riparian vegetation
Habitat for waterbirds and small bodied native fish
Potential habitat for endangered woodland bird species (regent parrot).
